MVA massage

For those seeking massage therapy who are billing a motor vehicle insurance claim, and have a referral by a physician, please schedule an appointment. There is no cost to you. Simply bring in your massage prescription along with the insurance company name, person to contact, claim number, and date of accident.

Sports massage

A form of bodywork beneficial to anyone who leads an active lifestyle. A variety of massage techniques used to prepare the body for athletic activity, maintain it in optimal condition, and help prevent and recover from injuries.

Deep tissue massage

A therapy similar to Swedish massage but with deeper pressure, resulting in the release of chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

Myofascial release

Connective tissues called fascia surround the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. This form of targeted manipulation attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, postural dysfunction and repetitive stresses. Using myofascial release will decrease pain and compensatory patterns, provide greater mobility, and increase circulation.

Trigger point therapy

Trigger points are described as hyper-irritable spots in the fascia surrounding skeletal muscle, and can be felt as nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers. This bodywork technique involves the application of pressure to these points of tender muscle fibers, in order to relieve pain, release tightness and reduce dysfunction 'triggered' in other parts of the body.

Muscle Energy Techniques (MET)

MET describes a broad class of manual therapy techniques directed at improving musculoskeletal and/or joint function, and relieving pain. Muscle energy techniques are used to improve somatic dysfunction, normalize joint motion, reduce muscular hypertonicity and pain.

Cyriax Cross Fiber Friction

Developed by James Cyriax, an orthopedic doctor in the 1930's, this technique is a deep transverse (cross-fiber) friction applied across the grain of tendons and ligaments. This acts to breakup the cross links of the scar tissue, realign the fibers, increase blood supply and rehydrate the tissue. This will help decrease pain, and restore mobility and function to the affected area.

Active and Passive Release

A type of soft tissue therapy that focuses on relieving tissue tension through the removal of adhesions, which can develop as a result of repetitive use. This method also helps relieve tight muscles and nerve trigger points, greatly reducing joint stress or muscular pain.

Stretching

A manual force applied to a specific muscle (or muscle group) that is flexed or stretched in order to improve the muscle's elasticity, and achieve comfortable muscle tone. The result is a feeling of increased muscle control, flexibility, and range of motion.

Scott has a great way of intuitively sensing how hard to apply pressure when he is performing massage therapy. He uses his extensive knowledge of physiology and body kinetics to inform his choice of where to work and what technique to apply.

I saw Scott for a massage to help work out some acute neck pain related to my training. He listened carefully and asked the right questions, zeroed in on the problem area, and completely relieved me of my pain with one session! Scott is amazing at what he does. Highly recommended!
